The highlight of 2002 was a move of the production of the Martin 16 to Abbott Boats Inc. in Sarnia, Ontario. Where’s that you say? Well, just across the river from Port Huron (North of Detroit). If you listen to any one of the three generations of Abbotts (a sailing dynasty in Canada), Sarnia is pretty much the center of sailing in Canada. Or at least the best sailing in Canada.

Boats Inc. is a family business. Started by Bill
“Chief” Abbott over 50 years ago, it’s a business
that Bill Abbott Jr. will tell you “we do for the
love of the sport...” and it shows.
Members of the Abbott “family” have sailed for Canada in the Olympics, most recently in Sydney 2000 in the SOLING Class. Abbott Boats has for many years designed and produced some of Canada’s most unique boat designs, and to the highest quality standards.
While many businesses in the Canadian marine industry have come on gone, Abbott Boats have persisted as the preferred suppliers of the Olympic SOLING, FINN, and now the YNGLING Class, as well as 420, Wayfarer and the well-known ABBOTT 22, 27, 33 and 36 cruising classes. All are known for their long, low lines, speed, and quality construction. I am very proud to have the Martin 16 Sloop join Abbott Boats pedigree.
What’s fun for me — and soon for you — is the Abbott Boats Team’s willingness to “do whatever it takes” to make you the exact Martin 16 that you want. Olympic Quality construction. Personalized — “tricked-out” just the way you want it. Undeniably YOUR BOAT. In a few short months, together we have:
- improved the construction and quality of the "Abbott" Martin 16
- asked for your ideas on how to make the Martin 16 even better

So
I enjoy the Abbott Boats Team already and I’m pleased
to join their team. Beginning with the
North American Championship in St Pete, we're all looking
forward to a great year!
